Where Is Vancouver Island?

map showing where Vancouver Island is

Nestled along Canada’s west coast, Vancouver Island is a paradise of pristine coastlines and emerald forests, where the ever-present Pacific Ocean shapes the scenery and tempers the climate.

Vancouver Island is located off the southwest corner of the province of British Columbia, Canada. It is separated from mainland Canada by the Strait of Georgia, Johnstone Strait, and Queen Charlotte Strait and from the United States by the Strait of Juan de Fuca. To the west of the island is the Pacific Ocean.

Vancouver Island is 460 kilometers long and is the largest island off of North America’s west coast. British Columbia’s capital city of Victoria is located on the southern tip of Vancouver Island. The city of Vancouver, British Columbia — host of the 2010 Olympic Winter Games — is located on Canada’s mainland, approximately 44 kilometers away. Seattle, Washington in the United States, is located 117 kilometers to the southeast.
